Course Description: Modern society places repetitive stresses on the joints and soft tissues of the human body due to work and sports activities. Health habits, various diseases and variations in human anatomy can result in entrapment of peripheral nerves. This course covers the anatomy and physiology of common upper extremity entrapment syndromes. The class will emphasize identifying and conservatively managing the various entrapment syndromes, sometimes referred to as tunnel syndromes. This presentation will also provide patient education strategies for the prevention and home management of entrapments.
Detailed description of upper extremity anatomy and nerve entrapment physiology.
Causes of nerve entrapment syndromes.
Diagnosis and differential diagnosis for nerve entrapment syndromes.
Chiropractic management and co-management of entrapment syndromes.
Patient education strategies for prevention, rehabilitation & and home care.
Develop a better understanding of anatomy & physiology of upper extremity nerve entrapments and their clinical implications.
Enhance clinical knowledge to properly diagnose and treat/co-treat entrapment syndromes.
Learn ways to educate patients in prevention strategies, home care methods, and activity modification.
Acquire new skills in managing entrapment syndromes including nutrition where indicated.
